A staple of every 80s kid’s Christmas movie repertoire – Home Alone tells the story of eight-year-old Kevin McCallister protecting his house from the notorious “Wet Bandits”, after he’s accidentally left at home whilst his family go on a Christmas holiday. LEGO 21330 Home Alone retells the battle between Kevin and the Wet Bandits in an unforgettable way!

After months of speculation about when the release date might be, today LEGO revealed the LEGO Ideas Home Alone 21330 with a release date of November 1st. Perfect timing for the Christmas rush and smashing LEGO parents wallets across the planet!

LEGO Ideas Home Alone will be the biggest LEGO Ideas set to date, measuring 27cm (H), 34cm (W) and 37cm (D), and consisting of an almighty 3955 pieces.
The Story Behind LEGO Home Alone
If you’re one of the seven people on the planet that haven’t seen Home Alone (really?!), it’s worth starting with a brief movie synopsis. It tells the story of eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, who is accidentally left at home whilst the rest of his family go on holiday to France.
Two hapless burglars (who amusingly call themselves “The Wet Bandits”) assume that the house is empty and plan to burgle it. Little do they know that Kevin is at home, and he sets a plethora of amusing traps to keep them away whilst he awaits his parents’ return. As an 80s kid myself, for me this is up there with the top kids movies of all time.

LEGO Home Alone was first proposed in February 2019 by LEGO Ideas user adwind. It blitzed past the required 10000 votes in under a year (a feat in itself!) and was approved by LEGO for production in June 2020.
Since then, LEGO fans (mostly 80s-kid AFOLs, I would imagine) have been awaiting its official annoucement – which happened today! LEGO Home Alone 21330 is now an official set, on sale from the 1st November 2021.
First Impressions
My first impression of the Home Alone house set was that I didn’t particularly like the choice of chocolate brown bricks for the walls, but it has really grown on me as I’ve spent more time looking at the pictures (and rewatched the movie to remind myself how it looks!). The original house is a red bricked mansion – red would have obviously looked too jarring; the brown is a nice compromise.
However, having read a lot about the set in the last week, I can now categorically say “I WANT IT!”. The amount of references to the movie is simply awesome, and for an 80s kid like myself – a nice fuzzy trip down nostalgia lane. Oh, and my son will love it.
LEGO Home Alone 21330 Movie References
I don’t want to ruin the surprise by listing them all out here, but any true fans of the movie won’t be disappointed. The funniest part is the battle between the Wet Bandits and Kevin, like when he places a spider on Marv’s face, or when paint cans are swung over the stairs straight into the Wet Bandits, sending them flying backwards down the stairs. The set is literally packed with references and Easter eggs which will be a delight for any builder to find.

Minifigures included in LEGO 21330
The Home Alone set includes five minifigures:
- Kevin McCallister (obviously!)
- The Wet Bandits, Harry and Marv
- Kate McCallister, Kevin’s mum
- Old Man Marley, the not-scary neighbour who saves Kevin from the Wet Bandits
I would have liked to see Buzz included, given the plotlines that involve him in the story. Perhaps we’ll see him included for the 40th anniversary re-release?

[Updated 28th October 2021]
Since the set was announced last week many reviews have started to pop up across the internet from various LEGO Recognised Fan Media sites. Note that a lot of these links contain what I’d consider spoilers, so avoid clicking if you want to save the surprises for when you buy the set yourself!
Summary
The biggest LEGO Ideas set so far, Home Alone looks to be a winner that’ll make its way onto many 40-year-old AFOL wishlists. I have a funny feeling this is going to be a super-collectable set (hello, Ghostbusters Firehouse!) – so if you do want it, don’t hang around.
LEGO Home Alone 21330 is priced at £229.99 (UK), €249.99 (Europe) and $249.99 (US), and is available from November 1st across the globe.
